At The London Acupuncturist, we regularly support individuals and couples navigating fertility treatment—and a major new study confirms what many of our patients already know: combining acupuncture and herbal medicine with IVF can significantly improve your chances of success.
Published in Healthcare (2025), this large-scale review analysed 37 randomised controlled trials involving over 10,000 women undergoing IVF or ICSI. The results are promising:
Acupuncture was shown to increase clinical pregnancy rates by 31.6% and live birth rates by 28.7%.
Herbal medicine also improved outcomes, with an 18.4% rise in clinical pregnancies and a 14.7% increase in live births.
Both treatments were found to be safe, with no significant differences in adverse events when compared to standard IVF care.

The study highlighted how acupuncture may support hormonal balance, improve blood flow to the uterus, reduce stress, and promote implantation. Herbal formulas were shown to enhance endometrial receptivity and support overall reproductive health.
